Paracetamol (Acetaminophen)
Paracetamol, also known as acetaminophen, is a widely used over-the-counter pain reliever and fever reducer. It is commonly used to treat headaches, muscle aches, colds, flu symptoms, and mild arthritis pain. Unlike nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) like ibuprofen, paracetamol does not reduce inflammation but is considered gentler on the stomach.
It works by blocking pain signals in the brain and regulating body temperature. Paracetamol is available in tablets, capsules, syrups, and intravenous forms. Although generally safe, excessive doses can cause liver damage, so it is important to follow the recommended dosage. It is often combined with other ingredients in cold and flu medications.
