Omeprazole
Omeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) that reduces stomach acid production. It is used to treat acid reflux, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), stomach ulcers, and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. By lowering acid levels, it helps heal damaged esophageal tissue and prevents ulcers from worsening.
Omeprazole is available as capsules, tablets, and liquid suspensions. It should be taken before meals for maximum effectiveness. Long-term use may lead to side effects like vitamin B12 deficiency, bone fractures, and increased risk of stomach infections. It is generally safe for short-term use but should be taken under medical supervision for extended periods.
